A Proper Thread Title

When creating your thread title please take the time to put a little thought into it. A good thread title gets to the heart of your problem and summarizes it in a clear way. Please consider what you would search for if you were someone else who had the same problem and were searching on the web or here in the flowlog.net forum for a solution. How would you describe it? Considering the search engine optimization of your thread title helps people find it via searches much more easily. A good title should also make it easy for forum users who are scrolling through the threads to find issues that relate to their questions or that interest them without having to click on the thread and open it up just to find out what it's about.

Good thread title example: "how to create depreciable asset account"

Bad thread title example: "help with account!!!"

Actionable Thread Text

When writing your thread's text, please try to be particular about the details and use the most accurate terminology you can. It may seem like this is just being pedantic, but proper terminology is of fundamental importance when trying to understand someone else's technological difficulties. Try not to be vague in any descriptions of the circumstances, as details that may seem inconsequential to you, may give valuable clues to a fellow member trying to help. At the same time, try not to include problems with obviously unrelated software. Please be sure to explain the steps you have already taken, so assisting members know you've given it some effort, and can make informed guesses as to your current stage of progress.

Update existing post vs creating a new post

Please make new posts for new info (as opposed to just grammar corrections, etc) instead of editing existing posts with new info as flowlog.net doesn't notify thread followers on existing post edits, but will notify them when a new post is made. Also, members might not think to look at old posts for new information. Finally, editing previous posts with new information could make understanding the chronological order of events more difficult, especially if you have multiple members conversing.

Marking Threads as Solved

When/If your forum thread issue has been resolved please edit your thread, and change the status to "resolved". This will allow members to find answers more easily and make helping other people more efficient. Thanks!
