The categories in flowlog are Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Incomes and Expenses. These are created by flowlog automatically and are not editable.

The groups in flowlog are Current Assets, Long Term Assets, Current Liabilities, Long Term Liabilities, Owner's Equity or Stockholder's Equity (depending on whether the books are for a corporation or sole proprietorship), Direct Incomes, Indirect Incomes, Direct Expenses and Indirect Expenses.

These are created by flowlog automatically when you create a set of books, but are user editable/deletable after that, with some restrictions if the group has accounts that belong to it. flowlog's built-in help will expose/explain this to the user on the edit group page.
